Become a Good Samaritan Volunteer
Good Samaritan Project (GSP) was founded by caring volunteers, and the tradition of volunteerism continues strong today. Volunteers provide a broad range of services. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Working directly with HIV/AIDS clients
- Promoting HIV awareness in the community
- Hosting family recreation events
- Leading and supporting GSP fund-raising events
All volunteers receive training about HIV/AIDS and are matched to jobs based on their interest and skills. Below is a description of some of the volunteer options. The first step in volunteering is to complete a volunteer application.

Direct Service – Volunteers provide direct service to clients in both an on-going and a temporary basis. A client and volunteer may meet weekly for trips to the grocery store, card games, or chatting. Volunteering may also occur for a temporary need, such as transportation, assistance with moving, or light cleaning.
Thursday Night Social – The second Thursday of the month in February, May, August and November. The event would provide an opportunity for clients to have a night out while socializing with each other and our volunteers. (August will be moved September)
Office Work – Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of administrative tasks around the office. This could include clerical work, organizing the client closet or helping with one-time projects.
Health Fairs and Outreach – Volunteers team up with GSP staff members at community events to distribute educational materials about safer sex and HIV testing to the community. This could include Bingo Night at Hamburger Mary’s, Castro Movie Nights, bar outreach and community health fairs.
Special Events – Volunteers provide a host of support at GSP functions, such as the Children's Holiday Party, Castro Movie Night, Bingo Night at Hamburger Mary's, Dining Out for Life and Corks & Canvas art, food and wine auction.
Meals at SAVE – Prepare meals at SAVE, Inc. which would require preparing a nice meal to feed eight people in the SAVE Home kitchen, or bringing an already-prepared meal (or purchased meal) to share during the lunch or dinnertime hours. This is great opportunity for a group or club.
