Community education to raise awareness and prevent HIV/AIDS is a primary activity of the Good Samaritan Project (GSP). GSP works closely with more than one hundred Community Partners each year to provide HIV education to thousands of men, women and youth.

Customized training for diverse needs

GSP trainings are offered free of charge and are customized to meet the special needs of partnering organizations and the people they serve. Trainings address the needs of parents, teens, women, men who have sex with men, minorities, Hispanic men and women, as well as HIV positive individuals. GSP also offers professional training to those who work with populations at risk for HIV infection.

Certified trainers and curriculum

The GSP prevention staff is certified to present a variety of training models approved by the Centers for Disease Control. Trainings are interactive, entertaining, culturally sensitive, age and gender appropriate and available in English and Spanish. Depending upon the audience, training may include the following:

  • What is a sexually transmitted infection (STI)
  • What is the difference between HIV and AIDS
  • How is HIV transmitted from one person to another
  • Slides of STI/HIV infection
  • Risky behaviors and how to reduce risk (abstinence and barriers for protection)
  • Empowerment, relationships, refusal and negotiation skills
  • How to speak about HIV with your child, grandchild or partner
  • Training materials to reinforce learning
  • Opportunity to field questions from the audience
